Programme of Events The Branch has a varied programme between September and May each year. There is a series of talks on a variety of subjects and all talks are open so you do not need to belong to the Branch to attend so please feel free to bring along anyone who is interested in the subject.Occassionally the branch holds joint talks with other maritime organisations locally. The locations for hte talks occassionally vary but the majority are held at Liverpool John Moores University. Details for each season’s programme can be found on the programme tab above. In recent years the Branch, thanks to the generosity of local sponsors and The TK Foundation, has been able to hold an annual seminar followed by the annual dinner. The sponsorship allows us to invite students from both Fleetwood Nautical College and Liverpool John Moores University. This allows the students to meet Branch members informally at the dinner, express their views in the seminar and hopefully decide to join the Institute. Occassionally, due to unforseen circumstances we may have to change either the speaker / the subject of the talk or the venue and in very rare cases cancel the talk altogether so it is always wise to check the website or contact the Hon. Secretary before setting out. We are always interested to receive the details of possible speakers on relevant subjects. Please contact the Hon. Secretary.

Our next Webinar is on Wednesday 2 nd December, 1800 -1900 GMT. TOPIC: THE DECARBONISATION OF SHIPPING Our speaker is Peter Aylott, Director of Policy at the UK Chamber of Shipping. The most highly charged debate in global shipping at the moment is decarbonisation. Green-leaning groups feel the industry is changing too slowly while ship owners and managers are, at times, beleaguered with other pressures and find it challenging to look a long way ahead.
